Spine Diagram and Its Components

[ad_1]

The spinal cord and the brain together control the neurological movements of the body. Both the organs are essential for having good health and physique. The spine is connected to the brain with an attachment measuring only as small as diameter of your finger. The spinal cord is given support and protection by the vertebral column which extends throughout the length of the cord. The fluid present inside the spine is called cerebral spinal fluid which functions flexibly giving resistance thus safeguarding the nerve fibers inside. The central nervous system comprises of the brain and the spinal cord. All of the above parts can be seen a spine diagram.

Having a look at the diagram of the spine you can differentiate four different types of regions. They are cerebral vertebrae, thoracic vertebrae, lumbar vertebrae and finally sacral vertebrae. Each of them is responsible and controlling movements of different organs of your body. The cervical vertebrae comprises of nerve roots connected to eye, sweat glands, lachrymal glands and hair follicles. It also leads the nerve fibers to the areas of head, arms, and neck region. The thoracic vertebrae in the spine diagram is responsible for controlling nervous functions of heart, lungs, duodenum, stomach, liver, pancreas and kidney. The nerve roots of thoracic region also bonds the muscles of abdominal and chest region. The lumbar vertebrae manage the functions of bladder, rectum, colon and genital organs. The nerve roots of lumbar region also control the functions of leg muscles. So, any discomfort or inflammation in the lumbar region produces difficulty in walking. The sacral vertebrae connect the nerves from the limbs and hair follicles to the brain. It also controls the functions of hair follicles.

Each vertebrae in the spinal cord is given name according to the respective regions they are connected. The lumbar vertebrae are denoted by the letters L1 to L5 and the thoracic vertebrae is denoted by the letters T1 to T12. From the letter of the vertebrae you can easily guess the name of the vertebrae. From the posture and arrangement of the spinal cord seen in the spine diagram, you can make out how it should be positioned for efficient functions of organs. Any abnormality in the vertebral column will cause serious disturbance in routine life.
